Description

I don’t know if this is a bias towards a man based on his own writings and knowledge, or if he’s simply making a judgment on the subject, regardless of the changing times. But I’m almost convinced that a printed book has a long lifespan and remains ever-present, no matter how much it’s surrounded by crowds. In other words, the written word endures, while the spoken word on radio and television is fleeting, and the word printed on a computer is effervescent, and like all effervescence, it vanishes. That is to say, the written word is a solid structure: stone or metal, and so is all construction. Other forms of communication are merely changeable—fleeting, glittering, and flashing. For a writer—writing on paper with ink—his writing is the culmination of his life’s work, and thus, the entire collection ultimately represents the writer’s lifetime!
