A novel of the (maternal) love of a father towards his daughter, a novel of a man attached to the femininity of the world

In the markets of the East there are strange beans. Ancient superstitions attribute to them the ability to facilitate the birth of male children. When the narrator of this testimony, a French scientist specializing in scarab insects, was able to obtain some beans of this type during a trip to Egypt, he no longer had any doubt that the world had entered a difficult period in its history. Indeed, everywhere, female births would become rare for no apparent reason. Could these beans be the source of this curse? The scientist and his companion tried, through an exciting journey that took him to the equator, to search for an explanation for this phenomenon.
