The Abbasids took over the Islamic Caliphate in the year 132 AH, when the first of them, Abu al-Abbas al-Saffah, was pledged allegiance to in Kufa. Their Caliphate continued until the year 656, when Abdullah al-Musta’sim was killed by Hulagu Khan, the Mongol, who was a descendant of Genghis Khan, the unifier of the Tatars who led them to the lands of Islam. The black banners (the banners of the Abbasids) came from the East and placed the Abbasids on the throne of the Umayyads. The banners of the Tatars came from the East and placed their throne in Baghdad, the flower of the East and the paradise of the world. From the East, their lucky star rose, and from the East, their unlucky star appeared.
