Description

When the first truce took place (in the Palestine War), the Jordanian Arab Army did not have enough heavy weapons for a two-day war. “Our trip to Egypt was during that period of the truce, and we presented what we knew and asked the late Nokrashi Pasha about Egypt’s intentions. He assured us of our loyalty to the cause and our continuity in the struggle until complete success. We presented to the royal authority in Egypt the desire for us to visit the Egyptian High Command Center in Palestine in our capacity as Commander-in-Chief. It was pointed out that this was not appropriate, as long as His Majesty had not visited the front himself. Then I presented the necessity of His Majesty’s visit to Jerusalem, and he mentioned the danger of flying. I repeated the assignment that this was possible via Suez-Aqaba-Amman. Other excuses were presented… In the event, we were not successful in recovering the equipment confiscated (by the Egyptian forces), nor in taking control of the war with the full force of the unified command, nor in inviting His Majesty to implement the stated purpose. I mean that the forces of the four countries were not, in terms of command and prohibition, subject to the agent of the Commander-in-Chief responsible for all the armies… Then the trip to Najd took place, and the League was in a state of meeting in Egypt. Orders were signed from us to our Prime Minister at that time, Tawfiq Pasha Abu al-Huda, that he would not accept the violation of the first truce, whatever it was.”
