The title of the novel is inspired by the real name of a building located on Talaat Harb Street, built in 1934 by the dean of the Armenian community, millionaire Hagop Yacoubian. Some consider the Yacoubian Building, located in downtown Cairo, a testament to Egypt’s modern history over the past hundred years, with all its crises, successes, and disasters.

The novel was a huge success and was translated into several languages. However, it was met with considerable controversy in Egypt and the Arab world. The novel was adapted into a film in 2006, with a screenplay by Wahid Hamed and directed by Marwan Hamed. It was also adapted into a television series in 2007, with a screenplay by Atef Beshay and directed by Ahmed Saqr. In the novel, Al Aswany highlights the successive changes that occurred in Egyptian society’s thinking and behavior during the post-opening period, through realistic models living among members of society.

A bold social novel that reveals the contradictions of society through characters living in a single building, painting a realistic picture of corruption, ambition, and love in the heart of the modern city.

[940,911,832,835
2728,1080,1084,1163
0":"post-19704","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-arabic-literature","7":"product_cat-novels","8":"product_cat-politics","9":"product_cat-sociology","10":"product_tag-literature","11":"product_tag-novel","12":"product_tag-politics","13":"product_tag-social-sciences","14":"pa_book-author-alaa-al-aswany","16":"first","17":"onbackorder","18":"sale","19":"shipping-taxable","20":"purchasable","21":"product-type-simple
["GET
