He traces the evolution of this concept from traditional Islamic legal texts, through contemporary political Islam, to Salafist-jihadist movements.<\/p>\n<p>He presents his contemporary understanding of divine sovereignty, which he sees as representing the universal covenant through which world peace can be achieved. Allegiance to this concept is allegiance to human values, embodied in respecting, adhering to, and defending these values \u200b\u200bout of personal conviction based on voluntary submission to divine sovereignty.
