In other words, the written word endures, the spoken word on radio and television is fleeting, and the digital word on a computer is effervescent, and like all effervescence, it vanishes. That is to say, the written word is a solid structure: stone or metal, and so is all construction. Other forms of communication are merely valid and changeable\u2014fleeting, glittering, and flashing.
