In fact, most of them were written before he ever wrote a novel, at a time when he was deeply enamored with short stories.<\/p>\n<p>These stories lived within his mind and heart, their origins perhaps rooted in events he witnessed firsthand and people he knew and interacted with, leaving a painful scar.<\/p>\n<p>He published them repeatedly, returning to them to refine them to his satisfaction, but he refrained from making any fundamental revisions. He believed that if he began revising them, they would be irrevocably altered, and he was keen to preserve them as they were originally written, within their original context.<\/p>\n<p>He divided the stories into two collections, arranging the sequence of stories within each.
