This book comprises a collection of the author’s writings that appeared in a monthly series of pocket-sized books entitled “Positions.” It includes dialogues and articles stemming from his experience in the political and journalistic struggle within the ranks of the progressive national movement in Morocco. As such, it serves as a historical record of this movement, reflecting the stages of development of Arab consciousness in general, from the late 1950s to the present day. These texts fall into three categories: political memoirs, intellectual and cultural stances, and a third category that borders on autobiography. The author considers them testimonies and historical material that must be preserved, potentially serving as a valuable resource for future historians in approaching the historical truth they seek.<\/p>\n
The author divides these texts thematically into three sections and thirteen chapters, beginning with the first section, which covers the circumstances and events surrounding the rise of the progressive movement in Morocco: the National Union of Popular Forces, led by the martyr Mehdi Ben Barka in 1959. This section presents political memoirs, the January 25th uprising, and the founding of the movement and the union. In the second section, the author moves on to discuss the period of absolute autocratic rule in Morocco, the suppression of resistance fighters, and the conspiracy to liquidate the National Union, through recollections, events, and analyses.<\/p>\n
The third section is dedicated to dissecting the power structure in Morocco during the French Protectorate, as well as the successive governments at the beginning of independence.
