This monumental work comprises three parts: the first, by Karl Popper, is a philosophical treatise; the second, by John Eccles, deals with brain physiology; and the third consists of dialogues between the two authors. In their introduction, the authors state that the problem of the relationship between our bodies and minds, and especially the connection between brain structures and processes on the one hand, and mental tendencies and events on the other, is an extremely difficult problem. Without claiming to be able to predict future developments, the authors of this book believe that this problem is unlikely to ever be fully resolved—that is, that we will never truly understand this relationship. Lahma told Rey that we could not expect more than a small advance here or there, and we wrote this book hoping that we had been able to do so. This book might be described as an attempt at interdisciplinary collaboration. One of us (Eccles) is a brain scientist whose lifelong passion for the problem of the brain—the mind—led him to this field of research. The other (Popper) is a philosopher who has been dissatisfied with the prevailing philosophical schools and deeply interested in science. We are both dual, or even plural, and interactive, and our collaboration was driven by the hope that we would learn from each other. The chapters by Popper and Eccles form the first and second parts of the book. They wrote independently of each other, partly at Villa Serreloly and partly during the two years that followed that meeting. The dialogue flowed spontaneously from the many discussions we had while wandering through the beautiful courtyards of Villa Serreloly, especially on the issues on which we disagreed. We decided to present them in It is almost its original form. However, we ultimately omitted some topics from our dialogue because they were later addressed in greater detail in our respective chapters, perhaps at the expense of continuity in some cases. The dialogue reveals that some of our viewpoints have changed in light of the criticisms that have emerged in various forms from day to day.

It discusses the complex relationship between mind and brain from a philosophical and scientific perspective, and raises profound questions about human consciousness, the nature of the psyche, and the limits of a purely materialistic explanation of humanity.

[837,835,834
1359,1163,1089,1343
0":"post-26517","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-psychology","7":"product_cat-sociology","8":"product_cat-philosophy","9":"product_tag-philosophy","10":"product_tag-social-sciences","11":"product_tag-sociology","12":"product_tag-thought","13":"pa_book-author-karl-popper","15":"first","16":"onbackorder","17":"sale","18":"shipping-taxable","19":"purchasable","20":"product-type-simple
["GET
