If only we could reconcile these two theories.

And combine these two art forms, the result would be more complete and the benefit more widespread. This is what I considered when I wrote this book in 1938, within a framework that presents us with a picture of Arab society at that time, a picture whose similarities we can almost discern today in some of our city neighborhoods and societal customs. The landlord and tenant and the relationship between them… the bathhouse and its patrons, the barber and his mannerisms… all these images of social life as they appeared in ancient Arabic literature appealed to me, with their distinct characteristics and personalities. I felt compelled to highlight them alongside the character of Ash’ab. So I traced his footsteps, sought out his stories, and began collecting his anecdotes from the books of the ancients… blending, mixing, and weaving them together.

I sourced the meat, vegetables, spices, and seasonings from the shops of four famous figures:

Al-Jahiz, Ibn Abd Rabbih, Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi, and Badi’ Al-Zaman. I was truly captivated and my mouth watered at the delights and witticisms I found there… So I filled my hands with the choicest delicacies and took them to my “artistic” kitchen, where I mixed and blended them into a single dough, from which I crafted this interconnected story. — Tawfiq Al-Hakim

A collection of anecdotes and humorous stories inspired by Arab heritage, revolving around a witty character known for his greed and love of food, presented in a satirical style that reveals aspects of social life in an entertaining and lighthearted manner.

[903,940,911,917
1148,2728,1132
post-28097","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-satirical-literature","product_cat-arabic-literature","product_cat-novels","product_cat-anecdotes-and-anecdotes","product_tag-culture","product_tag-literature","product_tag-stories","pa_book-author-tawfiq-al-hakim","first","onbackorder","sale","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
