Dr. Abdulaziz Khalil Al-Mutawa (1954–2023)
One of the founders of the Cultural and Scientific Association in Dubai.
His story, “The Inventive Mouse” (*Al-Fa’r al-Mukhtari’*), is considered the first illustrated story for children in the United Arab Emirates; he both wrote and illustrated it himself at the age of 15.
He held a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (specializing in Business Administration) from the Faculty of Commerce at Cairo University (1978).
He engaged in cultural activities while a student in Cairo, contributing to the publication of *Al-Risala* magazine, issued by the UAE Students’ Club in Cairo. Beginning in 1979, he worked at United Arab Emirates University, serving as Head of the Cultural Relations Department before advancing to the position of Director of Financial Affairs—a role he held until 1985. In 1986, he moved to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he served as Director of the Industrial Department, then Director of the Membership Affairs Department, and subsequently as Assistant Director-General for Membership and Administrative Affairs, a position he held until 1998.
