Badr Shakir al-Sayyab (1926 – 1964), an Iraqi poet born in the village of Jikur in the Basra Governorate in southern Iraq, is considered one of the most famous poets in the Arab world in the twentieth century, and one of the founders of free verse in Arabic literature.
