Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Muslim ibn Qutaybah al-Dinawari (213–15 Rajab 276 AH / 828–13 November 889 AD) was a literary scholar, linguist, jurist, hadith scholar, and Muslim historian. He lived during the Abbasid dynasty and authored numerous works, the most famous of which are “Uyun al-Akhbar” (The Springs of News) and “Adab al-Katib” (The Writer’s Adab), among others. He was considered a preacher among the Sunnis. He devoted his pen to elevating the status of the Sunnis and refuting the arguments presented by their opponents. It was said of him that he was to the Sunnis what al-Jahiz was to the Mu’tazila. He died in Rajab 276 AH.
