Tahar Ouettar (born August 15, 1936 in Souk Ahras – died August 12, 2010) was an Algerian writer and novelist.
He was born into a rural environment and an Amazigh family belonging to the Harakta clan, centered in a region extending from Batna in the west (Harkata El Maadher) to Khenchela in the south, beyond Sedrata in the north, and centered on the Harakta city of Ain Beida. Born after his mother had lost three children before him, Tahar Ouettar was the spoiled son of a large family led by a grandfather who was married to four women, each of whom bore several men, who also had wives and children.
