Yusuf Ünal is an academic researcher and historian specializing in the intellectual and religious history of Iran—particularly the Safavid era, Ottoman-Safavid relations, and the sectarian and intellectual transformations within the Islamic world. He holds a PhD in Islamic Civilizations Studies from Emory University. His research focuses on the history of religious thought, the dynamics between various Islamic schools of thought, and the cross-cultural transmission of texts and ideas. Among his notable contributions are his studies on the influence of Sayyid Qutb’s ideas in Iran—examining how the translation of his works into Persian facilitated the dissemination of his thought among Iranian Islamic movements—as well as his research on the religious and intellectual history of Iran during the Safavid period.
