Description
The Journey of the Arrogant is the third part of the “Travels of the City of Clay” trilogy, the sixth novel by Saud Alsanousi.
He emerged from the sea, his dishdasha soaked and his feet bare, and approached the men leaving the Al-Sayir Mosque. His appearance, with its distorted face and large, glassy eyes, startled them. The young men were apprehensive, and the children hid behind the backs of men who, despite their pride and dignity, remained composed in the face of his strange appearance. One of them hesitated to show fear in front of the other. The stranger, panting, said he had come to inquire about his father. One of the men asked him in a trembling voice, “Who are you?” The stranger replied, as he had throughout his life on the island of his past:
“I am Ghaib Bu-Wudryah.”
It was as if, with this statement, he had poured a drop of vinegar into an anthill. Men and boys flew in every direction like sparks, fleeing for their lives from the sea monster that, as Umm Hadab had foretold, came to kill their father and reclaim his stolen cloak.
