The book includes 226 short, highly varied and concise texts, most of which are narrative and storytelling in nature, while others focus on philosophical contemplation and symbolic allusions. This book presents Mahfouz’s life experience, both personal and human, as well as political and intellectual. Many of the texts also contain references to the author’s stance on religion and faith, love and beauty. Many of them have a Sufi flavor charged with depth, tolerance, and love for the universe and its Creator.
