The novel’s events revolve around the members of the court of Isis, Osiris, and Horus, and the Egyptian rulers who ruled Egypt from King Menes, the unifier of the two lands, to President Sadat. The novel is a dialogue with the rulers of Egypt throughout its history, from the beginning of King Menes and the era of the Pharaohs, to the late President Anwar Sadat. The dialogue resembles an imaginary trial of all the rulers on the Day of Judgment, where the god Isis, his wife, the goddess Osiris, and Thoth, the scribe of the god, sit together. The scribe calls out the rulers, from oldest to newest. The trial of the person standing before the divine court ends with either eternal bliss among the immortals or being thrown into the ranks of the insignificant who ruled the Egyptian Empire.
