Description
The world has grown accustomed to receiving advice and guidance from America on matters of democracy and human rights, given its status as a leading nation in these areas. Indeed, many Americans like to describe their country as the “cradle of freedom, democracy, and human rights”—a description that is only partially true and applies only in certain situations. It cannot be applied to America as a whole, as evidenced by the realities of recent history, which Americans know better than most.
