Description
When I was young, I didn’t bother reading novels labeled as “young adult.” My idea of young adult fiction was the same as my idea of fiction for readers of all ages; I believe that a story doesn’t care about age groups.
I’ve always had the impression that young readers can be more discerning and insightful than older readers, and if they have one advantage, it’s their lower expectations and lower biases. Either a writer wins them over, or they don’t hesitate to reject him. They are a difficult and demanding audience, but I admire their judgment, and I think it’s fair.
The Prince of Mist is the first book in a series of young adult novels, alongside Midnight Palace, September Lights, and the standalone novel Marina, which I wrote years before The Shadow of the Wind. Some mature readers may be influenced by the popularity of the latter and be drawn to explore these tales of mystery and adventure, and I hope that new readers will enjoy them and embark on their own adventures.
