Description
In this book, Dr. Muhammad Shahrour continues his contemporary reading of the Wise Revelation by applying his methodology to the subject of the clear and ambiguous verses. He traces the concepts these verses convey regarding these two terms, and related topics such as interpretation and independent reasoning (ijtihad).
The author presents a contemporary study of the process of ijtihad in the texts of the Wise Revelation, starting with the abrogation of all previous human interpretations of the clear verses and a renewed effort at ijtihad with a contemporary spirit, moving beyond the rigid, inherited traditional reading. This traditional reading has frozen history and its development at a specific point, rendering Arab-Islamic culture fragile and weak, unable to withstand the cultures of other developed nations except through the use of violence, such as beheadings, stoning, and flogging, to assert its existence.
