Description

In our societies, the family forms the core of the network of institutions that govern human life and frame its activities. The degree of its mental health, strength, and empowerment determines its ability to raise healthy, capable, and socially and personally active generations. Hence, the importance of researching family mental health, studying its components, and exploring methods for strengthening it becomes clear. This work serves precisely these objectives. It is not merely an academic, theoretical tool, but primarily aims to offer practical perspectives that contribute to building the family’s mental and personal well-being, both marital and parental. Therefore, its successive chapters present the components of family mental health, the elements of each component, and methods for developing and strengthening them. Each chapter presents the theoretical foundations of its topic, then moves on to presenting practical mechanisms that provide tools to serve both the family and those working with it, in achieving the goals of family development and empowerment, ultimately leading to its well-being.

These practical tasks have become increasingly urgent in working with the contemporary family, which is undergoing a period of rapid transformations brought about by both rapid urbanization and globalization, with all their growing opportunities and challenges.

The era of stable living, where the family was formed and lived within known and predetermined frameworks, is over. The modern family, lacking these fixed and stable frameworks, needs its members—starting with the spouses and parents—to possess the necessary skills, and especially the adaptive capacity to navigate the era of acceleration and uncertainty imposed by globalization, which is governed by the law of power in all its manifestations, whether at the level of nations, societies, or families and their members. This necessitates that the modern family possess all the elements of empowerment and capability; only then can it build its resilience against the multiplying dangers.
