Description
“Christian Fundamentalism and the Islamic Awakening” is a controversial title in an era where we have become accustomed to hearing and reading terms like “Islamic fundamentalism” and “fundamentalist movements,” which have become among the most prevalent terms in today’s world. Amidst this heated debate in intellectual and political circles regarding the identity of Islam and what Islam is subjected to in the name of the war on terror, the book’s author, Professor Youssef Al-Assi Al-Tawil, has set out to reveal the truth that Western media outlets attempt to embellish and conceal: “The origin of the term ‘fundamentalism’ was originally applied to Christian movements that broke away from the Catholic Church as a result of the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century. These movements based their reformist call on the principle of returning to the pure origins of the Christian faith, namely the Bible…” As for the term “fundamentalist” or “fundamentalists” in its Islamic sense, as used in ancient and modern Islamic writings, the author believes it “differs entirely from its current usage in some writings and various media outlets, which have imbued the term with the characteristics of terrorism and backwardness.” Violence and reactionism are the primary objectives.” From this perspective, the author attempts to clarify the relationship between Christian fundamentalism and the Islamic revival, the reasons for Western and American interest in the Islamic revival and their stance towards it, their aim in labeling the Islamic revival as fundamentalism, the position of Muslim scholars on this term, and the alternative terms they have proposed… and other issues. The aim of raising these issues is to shed light on the roots of the war on Islam from its emergence until the beginning of colonial invasion. The author explains how the West managed to control, fragment, and weaken Muslim lands, creating this vast number of factions that serve only the ideology of the enemies of Islam and Muslims.
