Description
This book is a defense of the simple life, echoing Nietzsche’s profound humility when he said, “The simple life is a very distant goal for me, and I will wait until wiser people than I come along to find it for us.” So what is the simple life? It is a life lived with as few illusions as possible, a life in which I am at peace with my own destiny, and I do not compare myself to anyone else’s.
It is a life where I am who I am, not who others want me to be. It is a life where I exert control over myself, so that my emotions and feelings are genuine expressions of the values I espouse and advocate. It is a life where I create pleasure with the simplest things, and I cultivate happiness and joy in the simplest ways, where true delight is the joy of feeling growth and elevation.
But returning to the simple life is the most difficult journey after we have lost our way amidst grand illusions. Some may think that living a simple life is the easiest thing! This is not true. It requires relinquishing the greed for acquiring things unnecessary for survival. It requires high values towards nature, humanity, and oneself.
