Description
This book contains four collections of essays written by the political analyst Mohamed Hassanein Heikal between early 1976 and early 1977. These are not all his writings from that period, but rather a selection of his work, which he compiled into a concise document outlining his perspective on current events, his critique of US policy, his warnings to the Arab world about the objectives of those policymakers, and his attempts to draw the attention of Arab leaders to what the United States sought to achieve in the Middle East, and the Arab world in general. The first collection, comprising four articles, is titled “Where To From Here?” The author attempts to analyze the Middle East crisis, extrapolating its future trajectory and the factors influencing tomorrow’s events. The second group of articles includes two pieces discussing the then-new President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, detailing his priorities, his theory of the Middle East, and his views on the policies of its leaders. The third group comprises articles on “A World Without Kissinger,” an attempt to examine Henry Kissinger’s approach to managing international crises, with a particular focus on his handling of the Middle East crisis. The fourth and final group of articles is dedicated to discussing the “Arab Negotiating Position.”
