Description

This edition by the Moroccan philosopher Taha Abdelrahman comprises a collection of interviews conducted by the author at various times. It represents his contribution to the call for thinkers and intellectuals to “reflect and reflect deeply” on the current state of “great confusion in the world of ideas,” from which there is no escape except through collective thinking aimed at generating “grand ideas” and arriving at “supreme ideas”—the very ideas that have preoccupied the author in his intellectual output.

In ten chapters, the dialogues revolve around the concepts of rationality and modernity, and the development of specific Islamic concepts related to them. The book also addresses discussions of the author’s projects concerning the importance of creative translation, the independence of the Arab world in its own philosophy, and the relationship between tradition and modernity.

Two appendices, also written by the author, discuss freedom of expression and the right to dissent. The author proposes a new term for freedom of expression after discussing its absolute and restricted nature.
