Description
This book is a collection of stories studied and presented by Dr. Riad Qassem, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Lebanese University, Branch IV.
In this book, Al-Manfaluti expresses the problems raging in his society, problems that divided opinions between supporters and opponents, such as the issue of the veil, the issue of imitating Westernized culture, and the corruption that pervaded society as a result of class disparity and foreign colonialism. He also expresses the longings, sorrows, and pains stirring in the hearts of young people, and his stories, in their essence, are like drops of tears poured into the hands of the readers. In the introduction to Tears, he describes this by saying: “The wretched in this world are many, and it is not within the power of a miserable person like myself to erase their misery and wretchedness. So, the least I can do is pour these tears into their hands, so that perhaps they may find solace and comfort in my weeping.” In all his writings, Al-Manfaluti’s work serves as guidance for young people and all readers, subtly encouraging the adoption of human virtues and good morals—a crucial aspect frequently observed in his literature.
