The general theme of The Lame is that people of the same race may fight each other, but they will unite against those who unjustly invade their land. This part has added drawings at the beginning of each chapter.
The story of the Red Palace, mentioned in the novel, prompted me to search for the true story of the Blood Countess. The story, in brief, is as follows: Elizabeth Yathvi, a countess with connections, was her uncle the King of Poland and her nephew the Prince of Transylvania. As such, this countess fearlessly tortured and killed over 600 girls from the nobility and even her own servants. It is said that after she nearly beat one of her young maids to death, blood splattered on her hands. She noticed that the blood made her hands look fresher, so she decided to replace water with blood to remain eternally young. However, her belief was similar to the possibility of cows walking on their horns, so death knocked down the doors of her palace in her early fifties.
