Description
“Now my astonishment has vanished, and nothing surprises me anymore. Ever since I saw her at your hospital, I knew you two were destined to walk together on a long journey… and here you are, following her from here to the very end of your life!”
In “The Quiet Nest,” Tawfiq al-Hakim weaves a four-act play that blends comedy and social commentary. The writer, Fikri, dreams of a world of serenity and tranquility, but he becomes entangled in a film project with the wealthy and naive Abu al-Najaf, the talkative director Jalal, and the captivating actress Mimi Kamal. This supposed peace shatters, especially after he meets Durriya (or Janbariya) – the woman who saved him from drowning – and marries her, transforming his life from the dream of a quiet nest into the clamor of reality.
