Description
The role of the psychologist, in practice, can be summarized in two main tasks, each branching into numerous activities: psychological assessment and psychotherapy. Assessment can take many forms, varying in depth, scope, and objective. It may be limited to administering certain tests and interpreting the results, supplemented by intensive clinical observation in brief cases. In more comprehensive cases, it takes the form of a multifaceted study of the personality, encompassing its various personal and social dimensions, conducted by a multidisciplinary team. The assessment may aim simply to diagnose the condition and present it to a third party, or it may be geared towards career guidance or selection, or it may serve as an entry point for psychological counseling and therapy. Therapeutic practice also varies in depth and scope, depending on the psychologist’s training and academic orientation.
