Description
The author reread the Wise Revelation using new methodologies, keeping in mind that it contains both divine absolutes and human relativity in understanding. Like existence itself, it needs nothing external to be understood, for the Creator of the universe, through His words, is the same One who revealed the Wise Revelation through His words—He is God Almighty.
This reading led him to search for the keys to understanding the Wise Revelation, which are necessarily inherent within it. It also led him to reconsider the concepts of the early scholars in light of the modern epistemological frameworks at his disposal. This is not out of doubt in their intelligence, piety, or good intentions, but rather out of his belief that they engaged with the Wise Revelation and exerted themselves within their capabilities and intellectual framework. Today, we have a different intellectual framework that allows for a new and different reading.
In his contemporary reading, Dr. Shahrour concluded that the Wise Revelation encompasses within its pages the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a prophet and his message as a messenger. From this perspective, its verses include the verses of prophecy, which explain the laws of the universe and the laws of history, as well as the events of the prophetic messages and prophecies (stories), and are open to both belief and disbelief; and the verses of the message, which explain rulings, commands, and prohibitions, and are open to both obedience and disobedience.
