Description
This book is divided into two parts. The first part contains a study of the development of food therapy theory across ancient civilizations, through the Arab medical tradition, and up to the modern era. The second part is an edition of the treatise by Ala’ al-Din Ibn al-Nafis al-Qurashi, entitled “The Selected Foods,” in which he lists foods to consume in various illnesses, for weight gain or loss, for increasing or suppressing sexual potency, and so on. The manuscript upon which this edition is based is unique in the world; this particular copy is preserved in the Berlin State Library.
