Description
This second volume in the trilogy “How Religion Became Evil” posits that Christianity—originally a Levantine, Palestinian, civilizational phenomenon—was distorted by the barbaric kingdoms of Europe. The book examines the damage these kingdoms inflicted upon Christianity, detailing how they hijacked and militarized the faith, transforming it from a victim into an oppressor. It presents extensive evidence that, finding nothing in the teachings of Christ compatible with their own brutal way of life, these kingdoms cast those teachings aside. Instead, they embraced the ethos of a “warrior god”—a deity who elevated their barbarism to the status of a religion, and who unleashed their blades upon the peoples of both the Old and New Worlds. Much like the biblical concept of Israel, they discovered in the morality of this warrior god a treasure trove for ideological constructs: (1) the right to sacrifice “the other,” (2) the assertion of their own racial superiority, (3) the justification for territorial expansion, and (4) a sense of being above universal human moral laws—with their treatment of others governed by the myths the Hebrews wove regarding their own historical encounters with the Canaanites.
