However, great revolutions are like great earthquakes. Not one of them ends with a major earthquake until it is followed by waves of tremors, one after the other, until the earth, with its visible burden and its hidden interior, settles down. The story of the destinies connected by a cause is completed, including the fates of its owners and the fates of its enemies. Some of its owners may meet a dark fate similar to that meted out to their enemies, and some of its enemies may meet a glorious fate similar to that meted out to the victor, even if only after a while, and after a long, bitter struggle, in another remote land on God’s earth. Some hunters may end up becoming the prey, and some pursuers may become the pursuers. Conversely, the pursued prey may end up becoming a predatory hunter, and the fearful may become terrifying. A time may come when the victim and the executioner are equal, when the victim finds herself in a state where she repeats the story of her executioner in her new adversaries after gaining control. Then she uses the same excuses that her executioners used before. Then the opponents will only part ways as much as they are similar, and one may find no other way but to excuse or even glorify the other.
