Description
Despite being over five decades old, this book remains one of the most important and reliable Arabic references, and the most important Palestinian reference on the 1948 Nakba. This is due to its author’s firsthand experience of the Nakba, his presence amidst it, his daily documentation of its events, and his meticulous recording of an unparalleled number of accounts of these events. He gathered these accounts from Arab and Palestinian officials, activists, and ordinary citizens, whom he diligently interviewed in Palestine and Arab capitals to ascertain the truth from them. The book is divided into three parts: Part One, entitled “From the Partition Resolution of November 29, 1947, to the Beginning of the First Truce on June 11, 1948”; Part Two, entitled “From the Beginning of the First Truce on June 11, 1948, to the Permanent Armistice Agreements between the Arab States and Israel, February–July 1949”; and Part Three, entitled “Appendices and a Register of Martyrs.”
