Description
The novel Monsters tells the story of the war that raged in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. Its protagonists are ordinary people, yet real, each telling their story, revealing their profound pain, their small hopes, their shattered selves, their memories of home, family, school, neighborhood, and country, their deepest sorrows—details that only those who have suffered the brutality of man against his fellow man can truly grasp. The victims in this novel rise from their unmarked graves and stand to their feet, pointing at their tormentors, but no one sees them. They speak clearly, but no one hears them. This novel is a cry against relentless injustice, a plea for humanity to replace barbarity, and an attempt to lift the veil of darkness from a forgotten, or nearly forgotten, canvas.
