Description

The Jews are a fundamental problem in the Western mind, and this stems from the very nature of Western society, especially during the Middle Ages (as explained in Chapter One). The Jewish question emerged in the early nineteenth century, and many non-Zionist Jewish writers, such as Heine, Kafka, and Roth, addressed this issue (as explained in Chapter Two). The Jewish question is a Western problem, a product of Western society. However, it was exported to us in the form of the Zionist state, which was forcibly implanted in our region by Western arms. Consequently, we found that the Israeli question had become part of our history, and we found ourselves confronting, studying, and dealing with the Zionist entity. This is what the brilliant scholar, Gamal Hamdan, did as part of his project studying Egypt and the Arab world. Gamal Hamdan was a genius in every sense of the word; his approach to thinking and writing differed from that of his contemporaries (as demonstrated in Chapter Four). Not all Western voices addressing the Jewish question and the Zionist solution are biased or prejudiced; Roger Garaudy—to name but one example—addressed this issue with extraordinary boldness, drawing first from his humanist perspective and then from his Islamic humanist perspective. We presented his thought and methodology in the fourth and final chapter of this study. This is a brief exploration of the minds of some thinkers, and the word “mind” here refers to their “conscience,” that is, the human being in their entirety. The mind, in this sense, is the overarching framework. The specific subject is the Jews, and we do not claim to have covered the subject completely, comprehensively, or in its various facets. May God grant us success.
