Description
Paula is the daughter of Isabel Allende, who died in 1992 after a long struggle with porphyria (this is how Saleh Almani translated it, and I had never heard of this disease or its symptoms before). Paula is absent in this book, just as she was unconscious due to her illness. Present in both cases is Isabel, constantly accompanying her twenty-year-old daughter (28 years old when she died) in the hospital, and speaking little about her, and much about herself and Chile in this book.
