Description

Recently published by the Arab Institute for Studies and Publishing in Beirut, Libyan novelist Ibrahim al-Koni’s latest work, titled “Blazing Against Roots,” is a book containing visionary and reflective themes, as well as philosophical insights woven from fragments, conference presentations, and interviews in Arab and international newspapers.

According to the publisher: The desert, as a space, horizon, vision, and contemplation, has always been al-Koni’s obsession and his central, cherished theme in his narrative works, articles, and lectures. Even while living in Europe, Ibrahim al-Koni never truly leaves its atmosphere, but this time he stands at its borders, attempting to examine his experience from within and the characteristics of his narrative adventure.

To write about the desert while living in the Swiss Alps is like having the visual memory of that place never truly leave you, no matter how far you travel.

Regarding the book, Syrian writer Khalil Sweileh says: “Ibrahim al-Koni is a prolific writer, yet this hasn’t prevented his works from receiving critical acclaim and attracting readers. One of the most beautiful works I’ve read of his is the novel ‘Bleeding Stone,’ which begins with an event deeply rooted in humanity’s past and occurring daily across the globe: the murder of one human being by another. In this novel, al-Koni masterfully blends the mythical and the real, confronting us with the contradictions of values and morals within the human soul.
