Description

“Beyond the open expanse lay the gorge of Thais—the Great Rift—flanked by towering walls through which the dry wind wailed its mournful song.

The statues entered the gorge. They ventured deep within. Footsteps followed close behind—inhaling with the rasp of metal, exhaling with the grate of stone.

After the first of countless leagues, the stone statues halted: Ahafaf, Ninardis, Nithriou, Medixa, Sis, and Rosalo. They parted into groups of three, each trio leaning their backs against the opposing walls of the rift, facing one another. They surrendered the stone of their being—once imbued with the spark of reason—to the wind, which would, century by century, return them as sand to the gardens of its impartial void.

The remaining three statues continued their passage through the gorge of Thais, heedless of the heavens turning overhead upon the wheels of the centuries.

Thadremis (of bronze) and the copper pair, Silopo and Lamina, reached the exit of the Thais gorge—that primordial rift whose gateway opened onto the vast, watery realms.

They ascended the flat-topped rock—a pedestal prepared for their arrival at the very dawn of inanimate consciousness. There, they stood side by side in their final pose, facing the blue, motionless, unfathomable expanse: the Sea of Hela-Koytothinis.

Such is the tale of humanity’s other two strongholds—Tharos and its neighbor Heko, situated on the fringes of the black Corbin Mountains—a tale of seals, messengers, statues, and endings that can only be written thus: the history of all history, distilled.

A tale of the shattered tablet—all that remained of the carved human form: the existence of all existence, distilled.” This novel is a collection of orchestrated coincidences.
