Gossip on the Nile is a novel by Egyptian Nobel Prize-winning author Naguib Mahfouz. The book was written in 1966, and a film of the same name was produced in 1971. Mahfouz was subjected to the wrath of the Revolutionary Command Council under President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The novel recounts the thoughts and realities of intellectuals, presenting examples of their ideologies over a period of time.
