Description
This travel account is among the earliest documented Yemeni travelogues. It has garnered significant attention in Yemeni historical literature, appearing—either in its entirety or in excerpts—within various Yemeni sources, most notably in *Tuḥfat al-Asmāʿ wa-al-Abṣār bimā fī al-Sīrah al-Mutawakkiliyyah min Gharāʾib al-Akhbār* (“A Masterpiece for the Ears and Eyes: On the Remarkable Accounts Found in the Biography of al-Mutawakkil”) by al-Muṭahhar ibn Muḥammad al-Jarmūzī. The Russian Orientalist Ignaty Krachkovsky also took note of it, discussing it in his monumental work, *History of Arabic Geographical Literature*, which chronicles the evolution of this genre from its inception in the 8th and 9th centuries AD through the 17th century.
As one of the oldest Yemeni travel accounts, its significance lies not merely in its African destination, but in the wealth of vital geographical and historical material it contains.
