Description

This collection of poems and prose pieces, varying in length, was written by the poet Ibrahim Nasrallah in his 1991 collection, Green Firewood. In it, he solidifies his ability to capture the extraordinary aspects of human suffering and express them in a sweet, transparent, and powerful poetic and prose style.

The book includes several titles, such as “The Banner of the Heart Against Death,” “Demonization,” and “The Survivors.” These poems reflect the emotions experienced by people and describe them in a poetic style that distinguishes Ibrahim Nasrallah from other poets. Some poems in this collection also reflect the Palestinian reality, which Ibrahim Nasrallah never ignores in any of his works, describing the Palestinian suffering through his poetry.

And the city marches on through the night toward the iron breast
The sound of a lyre and the rustle of prayer
And the columns of bygone cities
The last light
Some reassuring dew on a body that sat awake
Paths intersecting
A column of soldiers… and a prison cell
And the ribs of a carnation unveiled!!

The sky is filled with drought
The stones are cloudy and rainy
And all footsteps are fleeting!!
