Description

“My Life” is an autobiography by the eminent Islamic thinker Ahmed Amin. In it, he recounts, in an engaging style, his life experiences, beginning with his childhood and adolescence at the Umm Abbas Model Primary School, built by a princess of the royal palace. He then moved on to study at Al-Azhar and the School of Law. The book continues through his youth and adulthood, during which he held various positions in the judiciary and teaching, culminating in his appointment as a professor and dean of the Faculty of Arts at the university. During this period, Amin was a contemporary of some of Egypt’s most prominent thinkers, such as Taha Hussein and Ahmed Lutfi al-Sayyid. The book’s strength lies not only in its exploration of the author’s personal life but also in its insight into the prevailing social, economic, cultural, and political conditions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
