Description

Hayy ibn Yaqzan is a symbolic story that explores human life in its quest for wisdom and the truth of existence, so that the soul may remain connected to the divine alone. It is a literary text considered by many to be the origin of Arabic storytelling, due to its profound language, narrative, and literary and philosophical imagination. The story of Hayy ibn Yaqzan originally belongs to the pre-Islamic heritage, then disappeared for centuries before reappearing in Arabic for the first time at the hands of the eminent scholar Ibn Sina. Later, Ibn Tufayl rewrote it, transforming it into a novel and adding new questions that preoccupied him as one of the most important philosophers of Andalusia. It was then presented a third time under the title “The Strange Exile” by the Suhrawardi of Illumination, who imbued it with his Sufi concepts, considering Ibn Sina’s work as the first chapter upon which he builds.
