Our problem has never been commitment or neglect. Our problem has always been and continues to be extremism in either direction. Staying in the middle is a concept we have yet to master. We went to extremes in generosity, and it turned into extravagance and waste. We went to extremes in advice, and it turned into intimidation and fear. We went to extremes in love, and it turned into possession and control. We went to extremes in fear, and we surrendered the reins of our lives to it, and we became its slaves.
