Description
Love is of four kinds: The first is when you only ask, and this is immature love. It is the kind of love a child has who cannot give, for they do not know how to give. The second and highest kind is when you begin to give, when you give without caring whether others give in return or not. The third kind of love is when a person can both give and receive; it is easy for them to give and easy for them to receive, and they have no problem with it. This third kind of love is very mature. The fourth and final kind is when you do not know what giving and receiving is, because the other is no longer there; you are part of the whole. When I speak to you, I am not speaking to you, but rather I am merely an empty reed. And when you listen to me, you are not listening to me, but rather it is He who listens through you. Be the speaker or be the listener; be the dancer or be the spectator, for we are but empty reeds on the lips of the Absolute. The song is his song, and so is the silence. Once you grasp this concept of being a hollow reed, you are on the path of love. This is the first step. “Kabir” is a declaration of the secret of this love; he says: This is my path. The path of love is open to many. Walking the path of love is much easier than walking any other path because love is close to your heart. If you want to love, be mad. Only madmen don’t calculate, risk the apparent for the hidden, risk tomorrow for today; only they can walk the path of love.
