Description
“Mahmoud: My dear wife… you know I don’t like being examined by a doctor!”
“Hamida: Yes… I know… ever since that day a doctor examined you and told you…”
“Mahmoud: He told me I would die within a week, and I lived for ten years!”
Mahmoud struggles with death and is certain it is the throes of death, but his wife, Hamida, assures him that he is deluding himself, that it is just a passing episode like all the others, and that the doctor’s prediction will prove false, just as previous ones did! But he clings to the belief that this is his final rest, and that his soul will ascend to its Creator. Suddenly, a bill collector knocks on their door and asks for a private meeting with Mahmoud. This mysterious man glances at the wall clock and notices it’s a few minutes ahead of his wristwatch, but Mahmoud insists his clock is accurate. The collector gives him a mocking look and tells him his job is bound by a specific schedule, and he doesn’t care about the customers’ timings. He adds that he’s come to cut off the electricity! At that moment, Mahmoud trembles; the truth is beginning to dawn on him! Who is this bill collector? And has he really come to cut off the electricity?
