Description

A collection of short stories by Ihsan Abdel Quddous, an Egyptian journalist, novelist, and political writer. He was the son of Rose El Youssef, the founder of Rose El Youssef magazine and Sabah El Kheir magazine. His father, Mohamed Abdel Quddous, was an actor and writer. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University in 1942. He worked as a trainee lawyer in the office of lawyer Edward Qusairy. He was editor-in-chief of Rose El Youssef magazine from 1945 to 1964. He was chairman of the Akhbar El Yom Foundation from 1966 to 1974, and chairman of the board of Al-Ahram Foundation from March 1975 to March 1976. He was a full-time writer for Al-Ahram newspaper until his death in January 1990. Most of his stories were adapted into films. He was married to Lawahez Elhami and had two sons: Mohamed and Ahmed. After his death, some parties tried to reproduce his stories with modifications they deemed necessary to align with the promotion of their doctrine and ideology. However, his sons surprised them by refusing the falsification, considering it an attack on their father. They believed that agreeing to any change would be a betrayal of their father’s memory for fleeting, worldly political purposes. His son, Muhammad Abdul Quddus, saw this as contradicting the values he believed in, and even contradicting his own understanding of the ideas promoted by those who wanted to attribute modified stories to Ihsan Abdul Quddus after his death.
